Subject: Can steel wheels be trued?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

My camper has its original set of steel wheels and it occurred to me recently that the car would look a whole lot better if I stripped and resprayed the wheels. Trouble is, none of them are perfect (as much as .040 out in either horizontal or vertical dimension) and I would like to get them trued. It seems to me that 30 years ago, there were places you could take a wheel (they were steel back then as a given) and get them trued up with simple machines that used big roller bearings to do the job.

I called the one place in town listed as truing wheels, and they said "if they're steel, we can't do nothin' about 'em."

Izzat so?

Jim
