I guess I wouldn't necessarily call or consider a trip like that 'camping' in toto- Mike's post just said 'while camping'. We use a dual-screen DVD player to distract the kids while in the car if there's nothing notable about the scenery (the remote is handy for pausing it and directing their attention out the windows if there is- ain't technology wonderful ~), and if you're in a situation such as you describe I could see having those things along. I'm talking about under the trees and stars by the river, that sort of thing. People rightly complain about generators but in fact I think I'd be pissed off if I could even hear a TV or radio while in that environment.
