The brake shoes are attached to the brake backing plate. They are readily available, for a price at the dealer and some on line vendors. It often needs to be replaced due to bending or corrosion. Using a screwdriver to pry the drum off is the usual cause of bending. Once bent, the sympton is it become difficult to get a firm brake pedal as the shoes are not positioned straight against the drum. and as the cylinder move out, the shoes have to twist slightly taking up some pedal action. They plate is different for each side.
