Before embarking on a repair, some diagnostics should be performed to confirm the health of the the engine. Compression, leak down, and oil pressure. If the engine is healthy and especially if only one side is leaking, I would go for option #1. If the head checks good including the valve guides, A new gasket kit and the "Right Stuff" will seal it even with some pitting of the gasket surface. The cost should be ~ 9 hours labor for one side, 11 for both, the gasket set and new cap nuts. Of course sealant, fluids, etc.

Factory rebuild is now ~ $2,550. 16 hours is book time for install. I think two more are available. Of course, hoses, exhaust, fluids, clutch, water pump, etc will drive up cost.

If the leak is small, there may be the stop leak option. Just make sure the gasket is generally healthy and is not getting pushed and split by corrosion. This can be determined by inspection.
