I was just goofing around at www.mapquest.com . They have a new
feature where you can plan a trip.
I went from home (WA state) to the Grand Canyon NP (down the east
side of the mountains) , up Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz, to Sebastopol,  then
to Redding CA then home back in Washington.
The only problem I had was getting it to run me up Hwy 1...
  It was easy to rearrange the stops & easy to e-mail the route to
myself and others. I was just goofing off but it might be of some use
to someone just for the distances involved in trip planning.
