Re: lots of 15" disc brakes on vans in South Africa, I am sure that you are correct.

I was just thinking of add-ons in the U.S. and trying to be conservative. I wrote, then deleted thousands, not wanting to overstate incorrectly. I don't know if the factory made any modification to up size the rear brakes, but suspect that they didn't because upgraded stock size drums were available through the SA group purchase some years ago. IIRC, that was one of the early sources of the 15" size disc brakes. I have both the SA 15" front discs and these rear drums on my Syncro.
