I know John over at JDB personally. He is a standup guy. He stands behind the vehicles he sells. And he does a nice job fixing them up.
Once I was over there when a customer called. They had purchased a Vanagon and afterwards developed some problem. Without hesitation John said he would make make it right. It had been some time since the purchase, but John offered to split the cost of the repair, with John sending him all of the parts he needed.
John's cars are not cheap. He gets a premium for them...but I think its justified. His mechanic Rick is very knowledgeable on Vanagons also.

I've been out to their place a number of times. They buy Vanagons and
Eurovans from all over the country and get them into selling shape. I've
seen them completely tear down and rebuild some, or just do the heads, fix
interior bits, service, etc. others that are in good shape.
The owner uses his own in-house Vanagon mechanic for most of the work, but
also farms some out to Blazer Automotive. They're very knowledgeable and
seem like good guys.
Also, they stand by their vehicles and their warranty. A friend who bought
a Eurovan MV from them had a few issues come up soon after purchasing, and
he was able to take it back to them to fix whatever needed to be fixed.
I know another guy who bought a Vanagon MV from them. They had two
available, and they let him take each for extended overnight test drives so
they could decide exactly what they wanted. The one that they purchased
developed problems with the central locking system, and JDB took it back in
a fixed the problems.
I looked several times, but could not afford (or, more specifically,
couldn't justify paying for) what they sell, but they do get some nice
Vanagons in there.
They had an '87 Canadian-spec cream/yellow Syncro in there a few years ago
that I almost mortgaged my life for...
