The only hazard I can think about on the Vanagon is the CALIFORNIA SMOG INSPECTION! From what I understand the Vanagon pretty much needs to be near bone stock, or any replacement engine needs to be newer than the vehicle to which it is installed and have all related air pollution equipment. Even then it may be a roll of the dice as to who is doing the inspection. Good Luck, as I suspect you will need it.

Rita & I leave tomorrow morning on the "Great Road Trip to Santa Cruz". Bringing my '90 CARAT to my daughter April who moved there. Shop will be closed for repair work until I return April 16. Parts orders will be processed, albeit a bit slower than usual, by one of my Associates, Mr. Greg T. Brown, a good Vanagonaunt and wannabe Vanagon mechanic. I will be checking e-mail while away so can always be reached. Itinerary is to leave here tomorrow, Sunday morning, bright & early, heading South through the Finger Lakes to New Kensington, PA to visit with my Mom and Sister for a few days. Then heading West to Santa Fe to meet & visit with Maggie Dew, from there we will go to Quartzsite, AZ to browse the flea market, then up to Lake Havesue to visit friends P&C. From there we will find our way up to Santa Cruz and figure out how to get the CARAT registered & insured in my daughters name in California ! Then we catch the Big Bird outta San Jose for Ottawa April 16. So if you see a burgundy '90 CARAT looking like the Beverly Hillbillies heading West, that's Rita & I with All our daughters possessions tied to the roof and back and sides and..............well you'll see when the pics get posted !

Cheers,
