Subject: Heater fan resistor questions
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hi all.

Have read some in archives re: heater fan ballast resistor.

If I can't get info on what kind of potentiometer to install in place of resistor, I might move resistor to easier locale for future servicing.

Has anyone had success moving this resistor to a more serviceable location?

Like behind dash near fan switch?

I know they put out a lot of heat, and I assume actual locale upon relocation may be crucial, but it seems silly to put flap housing back together w/o making this part easier to get. Regardless of the fact that it is usually fan switch, and/or fan that fail. At this point my two low speeds were not working. Didn't accertain if it was switch (likely) wiring or resistor.

My line of thinking toward the future is that if wire harness to fan ok, and I replace switch and fan, then the only other part to fail any time soon would be resistor. I may replace that part too, but haven't looked locally for it yet. I will try to measure it's values and/or bench test with new fan.

Regards,

Neil.
