Hi Don, I've driven nothing but Vanagons since 1988 (my daily driver has two wheels and a derailleur, but when I do drive, it's a Vanagon). I've only ever had two sets of tires I was really happy with, one was a 205/70 that Michelin doesn't make any more, the other is the Hankook 195R75's that the Bus Depot sells, and that's what I have now. They are OEM Vanagon equipment with the stiff sidewalls that VW says are mandatory, they will take up to 60 psi and I really like them. Firm and predictable. I have Koni shocks, also from the Bus Depot, and while the combination does not give a soft ride the handling is great. That's my 2c. Steve (91 GL with Subaru 2.2) |
