A day or so ago, I pulled into a parking spot, and before I could turn of the engine, the battery light and the O2 sensor light came on. That was odd I thought. I took care of business, and when I started the engine again to go home, the battery light and the O2 light did not go off. I checked the belts and the battery (what for I don't really know - had it been down the thing wouldn't have started). After farbling around a bit, I rev'ed the engine to 2000 rpm and the lights went out. Below that and the lights came back on. This pattern has remained, but it has gotten worse. I have to rev the engine even more now before the lights go out, and they don't stay out. Engine rpm must remain quite high for the lights to remain out. I'm guessing that the regulator part of the Alternator is failing. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks, John Rodgers 88 GL Driver |
