Which brings up the ? of why is it spelled w/ an "f" instead of a "ph" like the English maps of germany?

I no spelling geek (or grammar for that matter)....

Short answer, depends on whom the spelling or grammar geek was that did the transliteration from the original high or low German? German also utilizes a slightly different (from english) alphabet, recall it follows the Latin alphabet. Also, the german alphabet changed a couple of times during the 20th century...

For us non-geeks (just regular folks like BenT and MM) we call em "Westies"! Ralf, on the WetWestie list came from the Westphalia region, perhaps he knows? Heh, maybe Tom and Ralf are related?
