You're right about the Lincoln Tunnel going into NYC. I was driving my 1982 Diesel Westy on the way to a Grateful Dead show years ago and was caught in a long line of traffic going into the tunnel with no turn outs or turn around available and running almost late for the show. When we got to the entrance the attendant said, "That thing doesn't have a propane tank on it does it?". Without thinking I just said, "No, and it's empty." and kept going. Yes, it truly was empty because my beer was getting hot!

My guess is the presence of propane is the issue. Could that be? I dunno.

I do know that to the best of my knowledge full Westys, or rather any vehicle with propane tanks cannot travel through the Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel entering NYC. At least that was the case when I lived there according to signage. Kind of a PIA travelling north to the Bridge.

You would see those LARGE RVs used for TV and Film shoots in NYC with "NO PROPANE ON BOARD" written on them. I always assumed that was so those RVs could travel through the tunnels.

Somewhere someone decided the propane was a greater liability than gasoline I'm guessing. I wonder what the fine $$ would be if you're snagged in the tunnels with propane on board. And I'd be curious to hear others' experiences.
