LOL! But I'm being paid in 1980 dollars-what to do?

I sort of followed you up to the $59K. A Syncro for $25 that's in need of a new engine and trans is a bit of stretch for my thinking, but maybe no, so I'll give you that. The $15K for a waterboxer rebuild and install feels a little steep, but OK, it's Saturday night, I'll go $15K for the rebuild feeling the cost has been about doubled. And then I have to say, even in 2008, the sleight of hand that accounts for an EXTRA $22K on top of it all is, to my mind, let's say, generous. $22K in unspecified costs..yikes.

All I can say about the guy who spent $82K on his Syncro is he must serve some darn good cheese at his house.

As for the $52K Westy with 36K miles. That, if the mileage is accurate, is a rare one. So...alright. Seems steep to me. But I guess we've moved into the special interest auto category since they're not making any more, low mileage is rare, it's like an antique of sorts.

And so to each his own. If I had a spare $52K I might just go for the Syncro with 36,000 miles. If I had a spare $82K, well no... I have to be filthy rich to spend $82K on a Syncro even one with recarros. But it does sound like this guy had GoWesty custom build a Westy to his specs. So granted a custom build of any auto is gonna cost.

In summary, I think both prices earn a "holy cow" even in 2007. ;)

Best, Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
