Subject: Water System Hose and refridgerator
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

One of my first "new to us van" projects was to dismantle the water system, clean out the storage tank (sanitize with chlorox) and replace the clear plastic hose from the tank to the faucet. Its easy to thread it through the back wall... run a piece of pencil into each end and duct tape the ends together and gently pull it through. I've only lost a faucet one time... not sure why, but it ceased working so we replaced it. I clean the tank at the beginning of each summer season and don't leave water standing in it while not in use.

The van we bought had been sitting for a couple of years. The PO's daughter thought the propane system was bad, so I took it to a RV service place to get the tank filled expecting that it would leak out quickly. They filled the tank... it was completely empty. The refridgerator started right up! then it died. I read the instructions in the archives on refridgerators and tried the trick of run it on electricity first... did that for an hour. Much to my surprised It started up, cooled right down, and stayed lit.

Testamony to the value of this messaging system you've all built, and the Vanagon web site! Life is good! Madeline
