Hi Ben,

Interesting numbers... On the baywindow bus list it's said that $5K US is the magic number.

Either way, in the long run a vanagon is a much better investment than a newer car. A 90's or 0x car will cost you $500/month for 5 years and has a 12 year total lifespan. $300/month invested in a vanagon or baywindow bus could keep it on the road pretty near forever.

There are certainly exceptions... My brothers tend to buy a $1500 minivan every two-three years and run it into the ground, which winds up being very cost-effective in the long run. The downside is that you're forever driving a POS.

If I'm driving a POS it's at least gonna be a classic. ;-P
