If the vehicles market value is low enough that you can afford to replace it and the savings in premiums sufficient then go for it. I have done so on many vehicles as I tend to be frugal and drive older cars that have already depreciated, we save the full coverage for our Westy Syncro and my wifes Passat 4motion Wagon(she gets the nice cars). As for nitpicking adjusters and which company is better that really boils down to the individual that you deal with as no matter the company all adjusters have leeway some are just more agreeable than others. My SO bumper our Audi into the rear of a Land Rover once and Geico paid without question or hassle. I have also had good service with Allstate including windshield replacement but then again all insurance companies know that they will have a lot of glass claims up here. The only good windshields in Alaska are on new cars still on the dealers lots. One difference I have noticed between Geico and Allstate is when you suspend cov erage for a vehicle put into storage as we do every winter with our Westy. When I had Allstate the did not care the length of time until the policy was reinstated, Geico like to keep it at six month intervals. Fortunately this is not hard here as we stop driving the van by late October and do not take it out until the end of April at the earliest.
