Non-AC equiped Van-Fans are relatively inexpensive to replace. The 3-speed AC Fans approach the price of a GoWestie Syncro<grin>. While Fan failure is possible, I don't recall hearing of many on this list. Usually the AC Switch, Solenoid or Dropping Resister. The OEM Fans are usually pretty durable. Give yours a spin by hand? If the bearings sound quiet and feel smooth, why not keep it?

Rad-Fan Re/Re is pretty easy without opening the cooling system. So if what I have said above tunes-out to be total BS, replacement is not a job you will curse me while doing......

Making aftermarket air deflectors would drive me to selling my Van and buying a "Ford". Your wonderful State of Utah holds many draws for Mountain Bike-guys like me.... Moab, Mt-Bike Mecca! Here's the drill. Your Fan dies within the next year, I will personally drive to Utah, re/re your fan and make you a set of real spiffy plastic air deflectors?
