Odd bit that. Ice displaces it's weight in water. If you have a gallon bucket and a quart of ice and you make a mark on the bucket where the top of the water is before putting the ice in the water. Be sure to make the mark on the bucket, not on the water or the eis. Now put the quart of ice in the water and mark again how high the water is (on the bucket). You will note that it rose about that amount that is close to 0.9 quarts. Or roughly 22%. If you do the same with a quart of lead the water will rise fully one quarts worth. Or if you add a quart of liquid ice it will rise one quarts worth.

Now here is the test. If you venture out upon a still lake with a vanagon transmission in your boat and mark where the water is on the side of the boat. Then put the transmission into the lake. which way does the water go on the side of the boat, up or down or does it stay the same? And by approximately how much?

Eureka!
