Hi Ellen I hook mine to what VW calls " X " power. This is powered up the minute you put your key in (with out turning it). This allows me to sit with the vehicle off and the radio on until I take the key and leave. I usually take out the factory chime relay and use that spot as a " tap " for this X power. Jeff E.
