Subject: My FINAL Tire Comment... I promise!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

I'm the person whose van wandered all over the road with a new set of Yokohama Y356's. I researched and priced out switching wheels to 15 or 16's, then decided to just take the Yokohama's back to discount and trade them for a set of Hankooks (185R14) that they special ordered for me. Discount was really good on this one, and traded them straight across even though the Hankooks are a bit more.

While waiting for the tires to arrive this week, I took the van in to a shop here in Phoenix (recommended by vanagon.com member) and had them align the front end and check everything out. The toe was off slightly. No bushing or other issues. Road tested it and both the mechanic and I noticed the van still wandered about.

This morning after Discount swaped the tires for Hankooks, the van drives like a new car! Tracks nicely, even in the wind. So everything is working smoothly. The head job by Doug's Bugs and Bunnies in Tempe turned out very nice as well. The van drives really smooth. No more bucking around town or slowly slipping the clutch to get going. As an aside, it was discovered the PO's mechanic had installed push rod tubes from a beetle on the vanagon when a head job was done 10K ago! Madeline
