We made it down to Monterey and I'm looking for a vanagon-appropriate beach-side hideaway. This is a pretty populated part of the world but we would like to find a place to pull off, maybe on a beach or close to it? Anyone know where there is someplace like that off hwy 1?

FWIW, I think paying 25 clams for a place to park for the night in a state park is a waste of money, especially when you really want solitude and are self-contained.

Marty reminded me why you have to be knowledgeable about these buses when you travel long distances. He has done very well considering the distances and terraiin travelled, but so far we have difficulty finding 1st gear, 12volts to the fridge no longer works, and the wipers suddenly cut out on me today (yes it rains even down here, Jake, Neil, and Tabe :) due to a loose fuse of all things. Haven't bothered with the 12 volts and I've been pushed by the kids so much I haven't had time to get to the shifter. Maybe tomorrow.

I had offered the bus to the kids to go travelling by themselves, though I doubt they would get far without needing help. I wonder what a mechanic would have charged for that loose fuse?

I can see why old VWs are so cheap down here; you can't swing a skunk without hitting one. Most of 'em I've seen are brush-painted hippy beaters with weed smoke trickling out the windows :)

Nathaniel
