Janet, I'm highly suspicious of mose socalled "additives". However, there are a few special fluids I use that helps keep my 88 GAL running well.

Manual Tranny - Switched to Redline MT 90. You tranny will love your for it. It will shift better and easier. I change the tranny fluid out every two years. for me that is about the 30,000 mile mark.

Oil - Swicthed to Mobil I 15W50. This reduced the tendency for valve lifter clatter - so called Vanagon Lifter Syndrome)

Oil Additives - If you are using a standard oil - and not a synthetic. at 200 miles short of an oil change, add a bottle of Marvels Mystery Oil to the oil. and run it for a 100 mles or so. Helps clean the engine and especially the lifters. Helps reduce the tendency to have that clattering valve syndrome. You can also put some of this in your gas to help with keeping the fuel varnish from the gasoline out of the injectors.

Coolant - Switched to Valvoline Dex-Cool orange biodegradable coolant. I always add a bottle of Redline Water Wetter when I change coolant. - Which I do about every two years.

Brakes - Be sure you stick with DOT 4 brake fluid. It has a higher heat rating and stands the heat from the brakes better and thus reduces tendency toward brake fade.

Power Steering - This system requires Dextron II/III ATF (automatic transmission fluid). Be very careful of mechanics when the work on the vehcle or these fast oil change places. They will try and put standard Power Steering fluid in the system, which wil ruin the seals. Causes them to swell and leak.

Good Luck,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
