Allot of times these things have internal fuses that you can replace even thought the outside says "no user serviceable parts inside". Judging by the fact that it still turns on though and gives an error leads me to believe it's a more serious problem. I'd crack it open anyway before running out to buy a new one.

It little tip on power inverters. Try to get ones that produced a good sine wave like real AC if you are going to be using for sensitive equipment like DVD's, computers. The cheap ones create AC current that looks like this _|-|_|-|_
