If you are talking about the quick-shift kit that was originally marketed by CBs, (cast aluminum spacer that raises the shifter.)

It does not make shifting any quicker, just reduces the throw distance of the shift.
It is a minor but noticable change - hardly anything that is going to reduce your 1/4 mile time by any great amount.

It is reversable, but you will have a small hole drilled in the shifter (covered by the boot) upon removing the kit.

It does raise the shift knob so it is closer to the radio - and some people find it at an odd height, so elect to add an extension.

I've had one for some time and there have been no adverse effects.
