Sounds like you need the hot springs just north west of Tucson - which of
course I can't remember what they are called. On BLM land, costs around
$3/night to stay there, no hookups. Just DON'T go on the weekend or a
school holiday - the land is used by crazies on ATVs and it's not quiet at
all. During the week, though, it's really nice. Hang out in the hot pools,
hang out in your van, wander around the sand dunes, talk to the others
quietly hanging out there. Highly recommended!
Someone on the list (Larry?) will know where I mean. Oh, and here's some
stuff on it from my website: http://users.rcn.com/jhecht2/Dec18-04.html

:::Last January I took my traditional January solo camping trip up the
:::California coast. We had a record cold spell and I found that the cold,
:::along the short days and the disappointingly grotty campgrounds along
:::the coast made for a fairly gloomy experience. So I'm thinking that next
:::January I'd like to head east from San Diego and do some camping in the
:::Southwest, and I want to get an early start gathering ideas.
:::
:::If anyone has suggestions for places to camp in Arizona, New Mexico,
:::Southwest Texas, please p-mail me. I'm looking for plenty of sunlight,
:::great views, quiet and seclusion. No hookups. Primitive is good, esp.
:::places that are not attractive to the larger motorhomers.
