Yesterday I had a brain wave while working and decided that the ignition switch was the problem. It had been hard to start up at the Ranch, too. So Tim and went out to Bunnies and Bugs with a pair of relays and a switch. Popped the steering column cover off with the two screws, yanked out the ignition connector and plugged in the new switch. One twist with a slot screwdriver and Varoom! All's well that ends well, though the bill for the tow from the Thompson Canyon to Chilliwack will be $250 - $300.
I'm a little surprised at how many of my fellow BC Vanagon Listees are not on the Vanagon Rescue Squad. You don't have to be a mechanical wizard to be really helpful to a friend in need. Sometimes even just a ride can make a world of difference.
