Hi Roberta: Death to the Carat table latch!

They are problematic - push and then pull out to release. Sometimes the latch gets boogered up and needs lube or replace. Some folks remove the stud under the table and install velcro, but you need a way to pull the table out first before doing that (install a pull tab of some sort).
