There is really nothing special about the auto-fill valve. It is standard fare in the RV world. Maybe yours is defective. It can be a little bit troublesome due to the small capacity of our propane tanks. Turn on the filler and the level comes up and shuts the valve. Then go get it to fill again. Part of the trick is to fill the tank slowly.

Mellow Yellow's auto-fill valve (yep, it's an auto-fill: has the red reset button on the front side, the knurled bleeder valve thing on the rear side) often proves to be a hit or miss kind of affair at fill-up time. My usual LPG station has one guy that has no trouble with it, another who struggles with it and likes to argue with me about it. Guy's a pain but he has this creepy resemblance to Charles Manson, so I try not to rile him. On the road, the roadside filler guys sometimes like it, sometimes try to get out of dealing with it altogether. So, I'm thinking that I'd like to replace it with something simple and standard. And legal in California if that matters. What are the options?
