Oh the saga of it all...... me and my new aux battery. I installed aux battery, 30 amp relay and fuse and wired it all up. Used #10 wire from starter battery to relay. I wired kitchen/cab light/radio to run off aux. battery via #12 wire (was supply to fridge) using S7 (accessories) for fuse. I tested with aux battery before hooking up starter battery. The aforementioned ran properly off aux battery. But. In doing work, I noticed a large gauge wire had a melted insulator (wear/tear I think) at fuse panel. Next day I repaired, wasn't certain where it connected, read Bently, and determined it *might* be the #8 wire from pos on starter battery to back (supply) of S8. I disconnected wire from starter battery, hooked my VOM to each end and got continuity. Ok. Connected it to supply S8. With all hooked up, it turned slow but van started. But, kitchen light stayed dim, (I ran aux battery down to see if things would run off alt. i.e. light would get brighter), AND I have NO alt./signal etc. lights BUT headlights, lights, and wiper etc. work. Wire to radio was connected to "T2a #20R Inst Lite Dmr" but is now connected to S7. instrument cluster was removed/installed prior to these symptoms. I wrestled with multi point connector on PS of cluster. Pretty sure it's installed correctly, but will double check. (it's keyed...... so should be right) I'm stumped. I triple checked wiring at aux relay. Any help appreciated. -- Neil Nicholson. 1981 Air Cooled Westfalia. |
