I use my Vanagon as daily driver and it is our family camper. Its just about to turn 150K with the original motor. Our Westy does double duty as the Christmas tree hauler, moving van, and other mundane duties. Its also the day-tripper magic bus for when the family wants to get away for the day. Its great when you have a baby and need room and space for changing, etc. (Even if gone are the days of letting the kids roam free in the back.) The funny thing about our Vanagon, and the Busses I have owned in the past, is that even when they have had problems, they alwasy seem to be able to limp home. I've never been stranded. Our Vanagon has been reliable. Its nice as a commuter from a driving standpoint, but not great from a cost (e.g. MPG) standpoint.
