I stand corrected. The point wasn't *where* they were being made, but simply the fact that they were.

And still are, evidently. A quick Google turned up several places selling "Complete body shells are assembled to a high standard from parts manufactured on original MG factory tooling."

Where this all came from is that it can be done.
