First off, you should use the parts sold by Vanagon list vendors. They are tried and true. No complaints anywhere on this list buying quality parts. I see about $35 each for the lower BJ and $20 each for the upper bj. Upper control arm bushing prices vary widely. You need 4.GET NEW RUBBER BUSHINGS ALL ROUND($100 or so). I suggest you buy the parts from vendors and convince the installer these are the best parts. Labor is high. Most of these parts need to be pressed out and pressed in. Press work cost me almost as much as the parts did.If you want a tack weld on the upper bushings, use electric welder.

A total front end rebuild is an investment in the Vanagon. It definately adds to the value, unlike other vehicles.Thats the way you need to look at it.Any repair or upgrade in a Syncro is a good investment.150K is probably time.I did nine at 154K and the rubber boots on the lower BJoints were torn (2WD).Inspection required it.

A front end alignment is almost a waste of money at this mileage. If you can tolerate what you now have, just let thefront end go till you want to fix it right.Need new tires? What are mushie tires? Need a bit of air?The list may have some suggestions for new tires.Good luck.
