Shawn,

I also have an 88 Westy and several years ago I finally got fed up with the fact that my headlight lenses didn't look bright and clear, but had a sort of haze to them. I figured that was diminishing my light somewhat, so I cleaned them. I took them out of the buckets and washed them with just plain dish soap and distilled water. I rinsed well with distilled water and they came out just as clear as can be. I did not do any rubbing of any sort on the inside. Just let the sloshing soapy water do its thing.

To dry them ( and this is important) I laid them face down on a warming tray (an electric heating pad would do well too) and set a fan blowing across the top of the opening where the bulb is inserted - for a couple of hours. They've stayed clean for a couple of years now.

I also have upgraded to higher wattage bulbs that I got from Frank Condelli and added the relay kit as well and they are brighter.

But just cleaning the darn thing made me feel better.
