I'm a fellow Canadian, and I've bought lots of parts from most of the major online parts suppliers, on both sides of the border.

I've bought lots of stuff from Bus Depot, and generally what I buy from them I couldn't get anywhere else, so the issue of "is it worth it" isn't really relevant. For basic stuff, I shop as much as I can at California Import Parts, which is based in Canada. The savings in shipping, duty and brokerage is worth it. That said, with the Canadian dollar worth more than it has been in years against the US dollar, buying from the US suppliers isn't too bad. Bus Depot in particular is pretty good value, given that they're also in the North East, so shipping to Ontario/Quepec isn't outrageous. I think Ron still offers a vanagon list member discount, which takes some of the edge of the conversion/taxes..

Finally, If you buy from a US supplier, see if they can put "antique auto parts" on the customs tag for you. This category of goods is exempt from duty for some reason.

Hi,

I need to buy some parts and it seems that US parts dealers have better price than their canadian conterpart.

I was wondering what is happening with customs and taxes? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
