While here, in sunny affluent coastal SoCal, in some of the safest
neighborhoods I've ever seen, folks routinely lock their cars (causing
the horn to beep and me to jump) even when dashing the 20 feet
separating the curb from the Starbucks where they order their half
double decaf half-caf cappuccinos.
