The accelerator cables for the automatics and manual transmissions are drastically different. The manual cable goes directly to the throttle. The automatic cable goes to the lever on the transmission and is connected with a ball socket. The Ball stud will often break off the lever from rust. The lever operates the valve body inside the transmission to modulate shift speed and operate the kick down at full throttle. The lever also operates the rod that goes to the throttle.
