I have an important point to make that has not been brought up......stick with me. I have a TIICO in my AW Syncro. I purchased the van (already converted)and, as I am very accustomed to the 2.1, the TIICO was hard to get used to......a flat four just feels good after having owned bugs, Things, T1s, T2s, T3s. Long story short, I learned to love it. This engine has not missed a beat. It screams RELIABLE. Everything is easy to get to and parts easy to find. It is a luxury to have a van that allows me the time necessary to deal with all the other Vanagon issues that normally pop up! Think about that..... The point that had not been made is travelling in Mexico. Yes, those guys can help you get on the road, no matter what you drive, but if you drive a VW inline 4 in Mexico, your chances of getting engine specific help and parts are great. I think it makes a great case for this engine, as so many Vanagonauts like to frequent that wonderful country south of us. Hope I didn't somehow start trouble. Hey, I didn't even say Mexican! Thanks.
