Jeff,

The Subaru head leaks are real and well posted in the subie list. A google search shows Subaru had repaired this problem from the 2003 models on.

Ok, rather than write up one long story about EB, I decided to break it up to subject specific postings. For those who read my breakdown story, I am going to gut the cat for now (would be out there now doing it, except that the weather is confused and thinks it's January here in Virginia, 60 MPH winds and SNOW flurries!). The absolute highlight of Everybus for me was getting to test drive Vanaru's Westy equipped with a 2.5, 165hp Subaru engine. All I can say is WOW! I want one! The install was beautiful, the engine looked like it belonged there, and the power was fantastic. The only down side was listening to a friend of mine the rest of the weekend (who is diehard VW) telling me what junk Subaru's are, the heads leak worse than VW's, the engines are shot at 80K, etc. Now, he's never owned Subaru, but I know a lot of people who have, and I've never heard any of this from a Subaru owner. I'm also a lurker on the Subaru-Vanagon list, and I've not seen his opinion expressed there, either. A big thanks to Hans from Vanaru for giving me the chance to experience driving one. If (when?) my 2.1 dies, this is most likely the route I'll go.
