As I recall from looking at my factory rear-facing seats, the "real brackets" ARE only small metal cups welded to the floor. From the look of how the seats are affixed in general, the cups are intended to do little more than keep the seat aligned. The real work of holding the seats in place is done by the steel square tube brackets bolted to the front seat pedestals that they snap into with that big spring-loaded steel pin. And the passengers sitting in them, they're strapped down to the frame of the vehicle, not the seat anyway.
