Subject: Tales from Europe and VW campers (part 7)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

After a brief visit back in Canada, I'm now in Europe again. I took some photos and made a web page of various T4 Campers I've seen. Visit:

This time I'm living a bit outside Grenoble in Meylan. Definitely less stressful than the "finding parking" adventure I had when I lived Downtown (literally at the "G" in Grenoble on the map...).

Haute Meylan is filled with the concrete mansions of the noveau rich, (and two remaining chateau's of the old rich) overlooking Belldonne massif of the alpes across the Isere valley.

The car models here are also distinctly different. While downtown Grenoble is dominated by subcompact Renaults, Peugots and Citroens, the preffered way to show off your euros seems to be to buy either a Mercedes, Audi or BMW. Rather un-patriotic by French standards. However, public opinion research has shown that southern Europeans are used to that the social elite say one thing and do another.

Popul is the only VW camper around, and gets strange looks in the area we live. It's a different story at the institute where I work. Here Popul draws a crowd of interested students and researchers every night when we leave. In two weeks we're going on an outing to the mountains with my new colleagues here.
