Hi,

In the '85 Westy I'm getting a bit of surging and a jarring ride when going from coasting to acceleration and vice versa.

I'm suspecting a combination of loose axial springs in the clutch and slightly sticky throttle. It is difficult to step gently enough on the pedal to get a smooth engagement of power.

I had a similar problem on a Diesel several years ago and solved it by slightly changing the attachment angle of the throttle cable. (so more cable pull is required for a particular accelerator motion)

Tried the same here (though cable bracket won't move very much due to the starter), and tried to lubricate the throttle shaft. But I only got marginal improvements.

Any other suggestions? (I'm not about to pull the clutch though)

The later diesels have a small gas shock damping the motions of the accelerator. Do you think this is a good idea? Ideas for jury-rigged substitutions?
