Don,

Is your 1.8 a Diesel type installation, that is, laying over at 50 degrees ?

I replaced my '92 Jetta alternator and mount with the serpentine one 6 years ago and it has been trouble-free.

As far as head gasket leaks go, it can happen, especially if you use a 1.8 headgasket on a 2.0 block or re-use the ten head "stretch" bolts.

So far in 11 years head gasket leak or any overheatiing problems have not happened to me.

Is your 5-speed transmission the Diesel or gas one?

I'm planning a trip in June to the East Coast in my '82 Westfalia with the '95 Golf or Jetta engine . I have the 5-speed AAP 112 hp WBX trans.

I used to have the 1.8 and then replaced with a 2.0 when it blew a rod.

The 2.0 is a better engine and now mine has 210,000.

Robert

1982 Westfalia

PS Tip: If you switch to individual e-mail mode you won't have the digest-mode repost annoyance
