Subject: Newbie refrigerator question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Almost 3 months to the day, I have completed making the upgrades/repairs that I intend to make to the body of my 1983.5 Vanagon. Now, it is time to focus on the camping gear! I have a 1983 water-cooled Vanagon that has the Country Homes conversion that makes it close to the Westy model. The refigerator works!!!!!!! My question has to do with the electricity.

I see alot of postings going on about pilot lights and auxillary batteries....I have bought an auxillary battery kit (I just need to buy the auxillary battery). How do I know if there is a pilot light I need to be dealing with? I do not see any place one would need to be lit (assuming pilot light means gas flame) - and the refrige works with an empty propane tank, so I doubt there is a pilot light. That would mean that the refrige is like a dorm refrige, electric only - right? Assuming this is the case - would it be silly to drive with the refrigerator turned on? If camping in one place, how long can the refrigerator run off of the auxillary battery?

Sorry to ask so many questions, just trying to better know my vehicle. Any advice would be appreciated?
