Crypto? <geek>A little rot13 in the water never hurt anybody, and most healthy adults can stand up to 5% Enigma. But if there's any PGP at all in there, be careful.</geek>

At 2 amps, it might not be totally insane to bring the power from the van. If you used a 16 gauge 30' extension cord (about equal to 1.25 mm^2, 10 m), you'd lose about a quarter of a volt each way - the voltage at the pump would be 0.5 V lower than the voltage at the van. The cord _probably_ weighs less than the extra battery, too.

Yow! I looked up some other brands of UV sterilizers and they are all pretty insanely priced, for what is basically a $10 fluorescent light fixture with a metal pipe over it. Maybe getting the pipe sealed to the lamp is tricky or something. (The other usual explanation for pricing like this is that most of it is for lawyer food, which is not improbable for something that is meant to be used to make water "safe".)
