route one runs the length of the east coast from "the county" in northern maine to s. florida. don.t know about florida, but it pretty much sticks to the coast its entire run until calais maine when it starts to head north close to the border of new brunswick canada...really nice ride the entire down east maine area from ellsworth to calais...best camping...right off route one in millbridge at a sea side little known town park...few amenities, but great views, easy hiking, very little company(one other camper when we were there), ten sites, and ten bucks!

My unexplained power loss falls into the category of "what the heck was
that?". A few months ago I was cruising up California's Hwy 1* when
Mellow Yellow's engine just stopped. A few seconds later it started
again. I have no idea what happened. Ever since, I have been
figuratively looking over my shoulder, waiting for it to happen, and
wondering what it might turn out to be.
*I have the impression that there is a Hwy 1 along the US east coast,
too. I rode a bicycle from Charleston SC to Norfolk VA with a former
Duke University dean. We stuck to the backroads wherever possible, got
on Hwy 17 when we needed to, but I never saw a Hwy 1. Is the east coast
Hwy 1 a fig newton of my imagination?
