POR15 makes a series of colored two part paints. They call them Hardnose paints.19 different colors at this time. They are not cheap, but are supposed to last really well.Covers well, too. They have a brown and a beigh and a tan, a grey, black ,2 reds,2 greens, ect. Also a color that looks like a school bus.Lots of other colors. If I ever repaint a Vanagon again, I may do it this way, and with these paints. POR15 says you can wax them if you want to.Getting a shop to paint a Vanagon is Sooooooo expensive. Most times, unless the job is done right(even more expensive)the end produce is not up to expectations. This may be a reasonable alternative. They spray easily and are forgiving. They are not going to run with reasonable spraying efforts.A cheap spray gun($30) and a compressor will do it.If efforts to keep dust at a minimum are used, you can get a pretty good finish.Even application and level. I imagine it can be done under a tarp, or out in the open air. Some people want a better looking Vanagon , but dont want to spend $$$. Their Vanagons are just not the type to go broke on. |
