Merian Brown! With some help from my friends on the Vanagon List, I was able to find the paint code.

One of the things I like about Lola the best is the fact that she screams '80's. I'm more of a 70's type, but that brown has a certain cachet (and quite unlike all the pastel colors out there on the road today).

Lately I've been noticing the gas station attendents taking a great interest in her. Getting gas on this last trip (and remember I live in Oregon where they pump it for you) three people looked inside and were so impressed by all the camping goodies. One said, "it's just like a little house", and I guess that's a pretty good description.

There is a color chart in a German book that I have that says...

Achatbraun 86Z 80-83 Assaunbraun H8B 80-84 Merianbraun A8A 80-86 Moccabraun H8V 87-90

so my guess would be Merianbraun. These are the only four colors that are described as "-braun"; there are some "-beige" ones as well. The paint code number (86Z, etc) might be found on a plate somewhere on the van.

Note however that this book focuses on what you could get in Germany, so it may not be exactly right for what was imported to the US. (For instance, in Germany, you could get a 1600 boxer all the way through 1981!)
