I answered this question earlier this week and on this list I think.  I have
the 10" F435i on my '90 Westy.  I'm happy with it een though I've had some
problems that were my fault.
As for partial deployment, I do that all the time BUT I use the supports,
usually attached to the side of the rig.  You could hang a couple of feet of
the awning out without support but I wouldn't do that for an extended period
of time, way to much chance of damage.  And pulling the legs out and down is
easy, no big deal at all.
