The only way you could conceivably match 20 year old outomotive paint is to
have a paint chip scanned and then a custom formulation made. As Dave said,
different pigments react to UV exposure differently - no way to estimate
what it will do. Car dealers use a handheld photo scanner to check a used
car for body repairs and repaints. it gives a comparison of reflectivity at
different places around the body.
Presumably your client wanted the van repainted to be like new. That is what
they got. If the only issue is the jambs, I vote to paint just them. That
seems like the best compromise for you. I'm sure it is tres dur to paint
*just* the jambs but you wouldn't have to give up cash, just time.
